I would never have coped. With your help I felt I finally achieved something."
There may be several reasons for this. For example, someone may feel that in the past the treatment available to them was not helpful and that they were not offered support that met their wishes and priorities. A person may not believe they have mental health problems or they find that mental health services are bound by systems, and are not always in a position to be flexible.
We offer a creative, team-based approach, with the aim of providing a service that will reduce a client’s level of vulnerability, increase their control over their life, and work with them towards a recovery that is meaningful to them.
Our strength as a team lies in offering an alternative. We focus on social recovery rather than on medical/biological models of illness. The team recognises the crucial importance of relationships in promoting effective long-term recovery.
We recognise a person’s strengths, interests, abilities and capabilities, and because we do not dwell on their deficits, weaknesses or problems, we are more able to engage with people on their own terms.
There are opportunities for people to socialise and form relationships with other service users and the wider community, within a safe and supportive environment.
The team also provides practical support with benefit applications, housing issues, money matters, and maintaining and improving living conditions. We frequently advocate on people’s behalf with councils, housing providers, debt collectors, medical services, the police and neighbours.
